Dear Brothers and Sisters

This is a busy week – lots of religion!

We have first communions this Saturday, Corpus Christi on Sunday, The Sacred Heart on Friday and Ss Peter and Paul next weekend.  All Solemnities.  Phew!

You could look at that list and groan – if you are a minimalist catholic – how little do I need to do to be faithful?  Or you could read that and think ‘Wow!  So much to celebrate about our faith’.

Indeed, to be a catholic is to be a celebratory sort of person – one who rejoices in the gift of faith and of sharing this with great men and women through the centuries.  It is to be grateful for the richness of our faith – its incarnational joy whereby every aspect of life is offered up in thanksgiving through Jesus Christ and where life’s challenges are shared with Our Lord and with our community

Parish Database
As members of our Parish we hold your personal information securely.  Please email if you would like to view or amend your information.

The Southwark Brethren is a Charity whose sole aim is to support priests in their retirement and to provide support for exceptional expenses whilst a priest is in ministry.  Your own parish priest was supported by them last year to enable him to buy some better hearing aids.  (A kind parishioner paid half the cost). If you would like to make a donation, or set up a standing order you would be most welcome. Please contact Rev Paul Hough, St Elphege’s Presbytery, 120 Stafford Road, Wellington, SM6 9AY.

And in other news…

Tracy has decided to stay on as our Parish Secretary and will be reverting to a four-day week in July.  I’m personally very pleased that Tracy’s talents and hard work will now continue to be offered in our Office and, with all the work of the Mission Team and a new FHC Team for next year, she will continue to be a great asset.

The Church and Criminal Justice:  Saturday, 13th July, 11 am to 3 pm, at The Church of the Sacred Heart, Cobham :

How do we, as a diocese, as parishes and as individuals, serve people who are directly affected by imprisonment?  Prisoners’ families, prisoners, and people with previous convictions all too often find themselves stigmatised and on the margins of society. They are frequently forgotten or at the bottom of the list of causes to support. But, as Catholic Christians, we are called to solidarity with the marginalised ones and to believe in the innate dignity of every human being.  Bishop Richard invites you to find out what is already going on, and explore what you (and your parish) can do.  Lunch  provided – please book at rosie.read@abdiocese.org.uk or on 01293 651161

Anniversaries Mass 2019:  Saturday 12th October, Arundel Cathedral, with Bishop Richard: For couples celebrating a landmark or significant anniversary. Booking essential – For an invitation please contact Rosie Read at or 01293 651161.
