This Lent we will again be running a Talents Scheme in aid of the Cranleigh Parish Room fund. Our wonderful Parish Room is already enriching our lives together – but it still needs paying for.
To support this project, we are asking you to take a £10 gift envelope offered to you under the Talents Scheme and then MULTIPLY it through your own talents and donate the money raised back to the project handing it in on or before the Feast of Pentecost which falls on June 9th.
Parishioners will be distributing £10 gift envelopes at the rear of the church after Mass. They can also be collected from the Parish Office when it is open. If you would like to advertise your Talents Event or service please email the details to firstname.lastname@example.org
If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved.
Perhaps, all the rest is commentary, really. Perhaps Lent is really about becoming the sort of people who believe and through believing speak about what we believe and through the authenticity of lives lived ‘in Christ’ those words are revealed in actions and attitudes that point back to the source. Jesus Christ, our Lord raised from the dead and living in His Church.
As we enter Lent , a season which encourages giving to those less fortunate than ourselves, let us give generously to help our brothers and sisters suffering hunger and homeliness throughout our world. Our Catholic Agency CAFOD will do the groundwork for us if we give them the tools by way of funding. Friday March 15th is the Lent Family Fast Day, please consider making some reduction in our eating so that we can be both thinking (prayer) of the poor and helping in a material way.
Envelopes will be available from the back of the church or with the Newsletter, please use them for your donation and return with the Offertory (next weekend if based on your Day of Fast). If you are a tax payer please complete the Gift Aid Form. Thank-you.
Something as simple as soup can transform a life
Ash Wednesday – 6 March – marks the beginning of Lent. Catholics around the world will give up some of their favourite things, and others will begin to fast.
At the CAFOD office here in Wonersh we’ll be using the day to mark the start of our Lent appeal, aimed at helping some of the world’s poorest people break free from poverty and injustice – and you can help.
By eating a simple meal of bread and soup on Friday 15 March, Lent Family Fast Dayand by donating the money you save to CAFOD, you can help families like Mahinur in Bangladesh. It’s hard to believe such a simple act can help to transform a life, but your donation will provide communities with chickens, ducks and hardy seeds that will not be defeated by drought or salty floodwaters.
This Lent, please help us to stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers around the world. Your support really will help ensure no one is beyond reach of the love and care they need to flourish. You will be given CAFOD envelopes for your donation during the weekend of 9 and 10 March and if you are a tax payer please complete the gift aid form. Thank you.
